FAQ

What are the kids doing in class?

The teacher leads a formal art lesson, where the picture correlates with the history topic. They also do a craft, listen to literature/read aloud, and make a map of the historical area. Students also review memory cards and complete an outline of the information covered that day. An artist  is introduced each day, gently intrudcing students to art history. Lastly, grammar stage students learn and practice an oral presentation for each session. Don't forget to pack a lunch as kids enjoy a social break time as well.

How do we prepare for class?

Grammar stage students read or listen to a chapter in The Story of the World and learn the memory cards before attending class. All students will have a portfolio at the end of the year to take home.

Are you a vendor with charter schools?

We are currently a vendor with Sky Mountain Charter. We can apply for other charters as soon as we have an enrolled student request vendorship. If you are with a different charter, we can start the vendor process as soon as you are enrolled. If we start in June, it should not be a problem at all to be ready by fall.

What costs are involved and what supplies do I need?

There is a $40 registration fee. Each 6 week session is $150 per student. All "in class" supplies are included.

Students only need Story of the World. All art supplies and memory cards are provided. The teacher uses the "activity guide" for some of the projects and maps in class. The CD's or activity guide are completely optional.

Do you offer discounts for siblings?

I wish I could, but unfortunately it is not financially possible. Maybe in the future!

What age of students does the class accommodate?

There is no strict age or grade level cut off for any class. I believe each student should be where they fit best developmentally, not just by age. The grammar stage class does not require any reading and only minimal writing. There is a certain amount of fine motor coordination needed for the art work, but the teacher modifies the art project as needed.Students need to be able to be attentive and cooperative for the duration of the class. Roughly, the age range is K-5th grade.

In the future, we will offer a "logic stage" class. This will be somewhat more demanding and will require students to be independent readers and able to write, at least a paragraph. They will be making five paragraph essays. Classes are multi age in format, so there will be a great range of levels in each and all students are meant to feel comfortable learning at their own rate. There will be a rubric used in the writing class for assessment: self, teacher, and parent. The intended ages for this class will be middle school, 6th through 8th grade.

Is this a "drop off" class?

Yes, drop your students off and enjoy some free time to relax or get some errands done.

How do I register?

Both classes are almost full, so please contact me ASAP. I can email you registration forms. Once you mail them back to me with the non refundable registration fee, you are "in."
